Fans Off, Flannel On

Dang desert. I think we might have just careened through Fall without even noticing. It's Winter! I hope I'm wrong. I still have a rocking chair in the garage begging to be finished and it ain't gonna happen if the weather stays frigid.

Whatever the coming weeks bring, the baby wore socks last night, I turned off all the bedroom ceiling fans, and if I get the energy, I might put the flannel sheets on our bed for tonight.

Ahhhhhh, flannel sheets. So soft and cozy. Do you know there are people in the world who don't like flannel sheets? Perish the thought! The two people I'm thinking of live one in Houston, Texas and one in Fresno, California, so I guess it makes a little sense. I wonder if they'd feel the same if they lived in an ice-fishing hut in Alaska. My guess is no. I live in the Nevada desert, myself, but nighttime temperatures do get down pretty low and I live in a tract home which means my house has NO insulation and poorly-installed windows. It's COLD.

Can't wait for bedtime.

I still can't believe I was in my mid-20's by the time I discovered flannel sheets even EXISTED! Seriously, I do not know what my parents were thinking as we had plenty of frigid winters growing up.

You can make that three people you know who do not like flannel sheets. I love to get into cool sheets and then warm up.

Is my husband the flannel-hater in Fresno that you are referring to? If so, how do you know this information? :) I have had to forgo the pleasure of flannel sheets for the last 12 years because Matt doesn't like them. How sad for me! :(

It's actually Laura's husband, but maybe I remember having this conversation years ago and being flabbergasted then that someone could NOT like them. I'm still flabbergasted. And I'm sad that you like them and have to miss out. Now I'm imagining a set of sheets that are flannel on one side and cotton on the other. Which reminds me, I DO remember that you had a cotton-only fetish with baby clothes. Which I understand.

Truly, I do not think I have ever lived anywhere where flannel sheets would be remotely appealing (and yes, I am the houston-based flannel hater). And turning off ceiling fans, really? You can turn them off? I wasn't aware of an off switch...

Since you've lived primarily in Texas and California, I have to laugh at your comment, Magan. But then I know you did a stint in Boston, so I have to take your high-set body thermostat seriously.

Anyway... ya'll are missing out! Although, ULTRA high thread count sheets are almost as nice - soft as butter - they're still not as toasty.

Ok, I LOVE flannel sheets but my husband and his high body heater hate them! But, since we are now in Oregon and it is pretty darn cold already; I have found a new best friend...the heated mattress pad! It is not even plugged in on his side, but my side is toasty warm and I can adjust the setting! I think I'm getting sleepy!
